Conversion methods โ€‹

Fraction to decimal โ€‹

Divide the numerator by the denominator.

38=3รท8=0.375

Decimal to fraction โ€‹

Write the decimal over the appropriate power of 10, then simplify.

0.45=45100=920

Percentage to decimal โ€‹

Divide by 100 (move decimal point 2 places left).

73%=0.737%=0.07130%=1.30

Decimal to percentage โ€‹

Multiply by 100 (move decimal point 2 places right).

0.6=60%0.04=4%1.25=125%

Fraction to percentage โ€‹

Convert to decimal first, then multiply by 100.

720=0.35=35%

Ordering FDP โ€‹

Convert everything to the same form (decimals are easiest) before ordering.

Example

Order from smallest to largest: 35, 0.55, 62%, 58

Convert all to decimals:

  • 35=0.6
  • 0.55
  • 62%=0.62
  • 58=0.625

Answer: 0.55<35<62%<58


Exam tips โ€‹

Watch out for

  • 13=0.3โ€•, not 0.3 - it is a recurring decimal
  • When ordering, always convert to the same form first
  • 14=25%, not 4%
